Customer Background: A Petrochemical Manufacturer with Chemical-Related Assembly Needs
The customer is a large publicly listed petrochemical manufacturer in China, with business activities covering petrochemical processing, chemical materials, polyester-related products, and downstream industrial applications. As a major manufacturer in the chemical industry, the company operates in a production environment where process control, workplace organization, equipment reliability, and surface cleanliness are important to daily operations. The client's identity is kept confidential at their request.
According to publicly available business rankings, the customer has been listed among leading companies in the chemical sector of the
Fortune China Listed Companies 500. It has also been recognized in the Forbes China ESG 50, reflecting its continued attention to sustainable development, corporate governance, environmental responsibility, and long-term industrial competitiveness.
For this project, the customer needed customized workstations for product assembly, packaging and quality inspection. Since the products are related to chemical materials, the workstations required a more suitable working surface for cleaning, maintenance, and daily inspection work.
The Challenge: Industrial Workbench Design for Assembly, Inspection, and Material Management in a Chemical-Related Workshop
The customer needed more than a standard
industrial workbench. Their workshop required a customized workstation system that could support product assembly, inspection work, tool organization, and material storage within the available production space.
Because the customer operates in a petrochemical-related industry, the workbench design had to match both the nature of their products and the actual workshop layout they provided. ROCKBEN needed to consider how operators would use the workstations, where tools and materials should be placed, how much storage was required at each station, and how the full workstation layout could fit into the customer's working area.
Designed Around the Customer's Industry and Workshop Space
The customers needed a workstation solution planned around their actual production environment. Their requirements included areas for product assembly, inspection work, tool access, and material handling. At the same time, the workstation layout had to fit the available workshop space without making the working area crowded or difficult to operate.
Work Surface Requirements for Chemical-Related Products
The customer's products are related to chemical materials, so the work surface could potentially come into contact with liquid residues, chemical-related components, or materials that require frequent cleaning. This made the worktop material an important technical requirement.
Storage Requirements for Different Types of Items
The customer also needed each workstation to support different storage needs. The items used around the workstation included small parts, medium-sized materials, tools, inspection items, accessories, and other frequently used production supplies. If these items were stored too far from the working area, operators would spend more time walking, searching, and carrying materials. If too many items were placed directly on the worktop, the working surface would become crowded and less efficient for assembly and inspection tasks.
Our Solution: Custom Industrial Workbenches with 304 Stainless Steel Tops
Based on the customer's workshop space, product characteristics, and storage requirements, ROCKBEN designed a customized square-tube industrial workbench system for the assembly and inspection area. The final solution combined 304 stainless steel worktops, square-tube steel frames, drawer storage, lower shelves, and pegboard panels into one integrated workstation layout.
Before production, ROCKBEN used CAD drawings to plan the workstation arrangement according to the customer's available space. The layout was reviewed and adjusted through multiple rounds of communication, ensuring that the workstation size, storage structure, and placement could match the customer's actual workflow and site conditions.
304 Stainless Steel Worktop for Chemical-Related Tasks
Since the customer's products are related to chemical materials, the work surface needed to be easy to clean, durable, and suitable for daily maintenance. In this type of working environment, liquid residue, dust, components, and inspection materials may come into contact with the tabletop during daily operations.
For this reason, ROCKBEN selected 304 stainless steel worktops for the project. Compared with ordinary steel or painted surfaces, 304 stainless steel provides better corrosion resistance and rust resistance, making it more suitable for chemical-related working conditions. At the same time, it has enough mechanical strength and surface durability to support daily assembly, inspection, and production support tasks.
Drawers, Lower Shelf, and Pegboard for Small Parts, Tools, and Inspection Items
To meet the customer's storage needs, ROCKBEN combined drawer storage with shelf under the worktop. The drawers provide enclosed storage for small parts, hand tools, measuring tools, documents, gauges, and inspection accessories. The shelf provides space for medium-sized materials, boxes, parts, and other production items that need to stay near the workstation.
ROCKBEN also added pegboard panels to support visible tool organization. Frequently used tools can be hung on the pegboard instead of being placed randomly on the worktop or stored deep inside drawers. This makes tools easier to see, access, and return after use. It also supports 5S-style workshop management, because missing or misplaced tools can be identified more quickly. For the customer's assembly and inspection area, the pegboard design helped improve tool visibility while keeping the main work surface clear for daily operation.
On-Site Result: A Cleaner, More Organized Assembly and QC Area
After installation, the customized workbenches were arranged according to the confirmed workshop layout. Each workstation provided a dedicated area for assembly and inspection support, while keeping tools, parts, and materials organized around the operator.

Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why choose a 304 stainless steel workbench for a petrochemical workshop?
A 304 stainless steel workbench is suitable for many petrochemical and chemical-related workshop applications because it offers a good balance of corrosion resistance and rust resistance. At the same time, it is not too soft for works including tooling. For this case, the customer needed a work surface that could support assembly and inspection tasks while being easier to clean and maintain during daily use.
2) Can ROCKBEN customize workbenches according to workshop layout?
Yes. ROCKBEN can customize industrial workbenches according to the customer's available workshop space, workflow, storage needs, and workstation arrangement. In this project, CAD drawings were used to plan the workstation layout, and the final layout was confirmed after multiple rounds of communication with the customer. If you have customization needs, feel free to send your requirements to us and we will check which product and layout are the best for you.
3) What is the difference between a standard workbench and a custom workstation system?
A standard workbench usually provides only a fixed work surface and a basic frame. A custom workstation system is designed around the customer's actual workflow, site space, storage requirements, and operating habits.
For example, a custom workstation can combine stainless steel worktops, drawers, lower shelves, pegboards, lighting, power outlets, tool panels, and different frame structures. It can also be planned as part of a full workshop layout instead of being treated as a single independent bench.
